Making a choice

Making a choice

Perhaps you are really pleased to find that you are pregnant. If so, visit the Healthy Pregnancy section which will give you more information on healthy eating, exercise, smoking, alcohol and drugs/medicines during pregnancy.

However, if your pregnancy wasn't planned, and you are unhappy about the positive result, you face a difficult decision about what you want to do now.

You are faced with three basic choices. Each choice has a different set of consequences for you and those around you. For more information on each of the choices open to you, click on the links below:

Perhaps you are not sure how you feel about being pregnant, and are struggling to make a decision about what to do - you might be feeling confused, frightened or alone. It might make things clearer for you if you write down your feelings and then explore them further. Consider the three basic choices facing you - adoption, abortion, or continuing the pregnancy. Think about each choice, how it makes you feel and why.

You will need support at this time. If you haven't already done so, it would be good idea to tell your partner and find out how he feels about the situation. Then you might like to discuss the matter with another member of your family or a trusted friend. Alternatively, a doctor, nurse or family planning clinician will be able to help you to work out the best course of action. bpas (which used to be known as the British Pregnancy Advisory Service) can also be contacted anonymously on 08457 30 40 30 for advice and guidance.

Don't put off making your decision. Whatever you decide it is important that you see your GP, or other healthcare professional as soon as possible so that the appropriate medical care can be arranged for you.
