Healthy pregnancy

Whilst you are pregnant it is important to keep you and your unborn baby healthy.

A pregnant woman should take a 400 microgram tablet of folic acid every day up until the 12th week of pregnancy, to help to prevent spina bifida and other related problems. You can get folic acid from dark green vegetables (but don't overcook them as this destroys the vitamins), oranges, wholewheat bread and some breakfast cereals. However, even if you eat lots of these foods already, you should still take the supplement to make sure you're getting enough.
