A word about alcohol
A small amount of alcohol is not harmful, and can be enjoyable. However, some people drink more alcohol than others and even if you don't drink excessively alcohol can lead to weight gain. Alcoholic drinks contain a lot of calories. The table below has a pint of bitter, pint of cider, pint of lager, a bottle of Bacardi breezer, a glass of wine and a Baileys and ice. Click on each drink to find out the calorie contents:
Also, if you frequently drink alcohol rather than eat a meal (the so-called "liquid lunch", for example) you may well be missing out on vital vitamins and nutrients.
Drinking alcohol often goes hand-in-hand with nibbling on snacks from behind the bar, such as pork scratchings, crisps and peanuts, all of which are high in fat and salt. The salt will also make you more thirsty so you will be more inclined to drink more alcohol.
