This group includes meat and meat products, poultry, fish, eggs, beans and lentils, nuts and nut products, textured vegetable protein, and other meat alternatives. These foods are rich in protein which plays an essential role in building and repairing the body, and maintaining body tissues such as the heart, muscles and kidneys.
Non-meat eaters (e.g. vegetarians and vegans) should get their protein from beans, pulses, eggs, nuts, seeds, soya products, etc.
