Caveman versus modern man
Think about our Stone Age ancestors. Cavemen and women had to survive for long periods when food was scarce, particularly during the winter months when the ground was frozen hard and covered by snow. They managed this by feasting on food when it was available, and allowing their bodies to store fat for the tough times ahead. This fat not only allowed them to survive for periods without food to provide them with energy, but also kept them warm during the cold weather. Even during the warmer months cavemen would have had to work hard for their food. They had to walk long distances on foot, chase and kill wild animals, forage for food, and build shelters.
Now, back to the modern day. In the UK, food is available all year round. We live in centrally heated homes and can easily put on warm clothing when it is cold. We use our cars to get around, and we only have to go as far as the nearest supermarket or fast food outlet to find food. All this means it is much easier for a modern person to eat too much food and become overweight or obese.
