Vitamins & minerals
What are they?
Vitamins are substances that are needed in small amounts for many processes carried out in the body. Usually only a small amount is needed on a daily basis, but as the body cannot make these vitamins, except Vitamin D, they have to be provided in the diet.
It should be noted though, that vitamins and mineral supplements are not a replacement for good eating habits, as most people can get all the nutrients their body needs by choosing a variety of foods.
If you think that you might need to take a vitamin or mineral supplement, speak to a doctor, nurse or dietician first.
