Vaccinations
Depending where you are travelling to, there will be particular recommended vaccinations you should have before you go. For some destinations, you will also be required to take a course of Malaria tablets.
If you are booking your holiday in advance, visit your local GP Practice at least 6 weeks before you go to check on immunisation requirements for your destination/s.
Even if your holiday is a "late deal", you should find out what vaccinations you will need and have them before you depart.
Make sure you tell your doctor or Practice Nurse of any other medication you are taking before they give you your vaccinations.
If you have had a particular vaccination previously, check it is still up-to-date. After you have been vaccinated, keep your immunisation certificates with your passport so that you will have the information readily available when you book your next trip.
It is important to note that vaccinations do not cover every eventuality. For example, it is not commonplace to vaccinate travellers against rabies, which once the disease develops, is usually fatal. Rabies is contracted through a bite from an infected animal, therefore it is important not touch any animals whether wild, stray or apparently "tame".
