Stressed?

The lists below shows some of the common physical and emotional symptoms of stress. People suffering from stress do not usually experience all these symptoms at the same time.

Physical symptoms:

  • sleep problems and tiredness
  • digestion problems (e.g. upset stomach, diarrhoea)
  • changes in appetite / over or under eating
  • headaches
  • neckache and backache
  • skin problems (e.g. rashes)
  • allergies
  • dry mouth
  • shortness of breath

Emotional symptoms:

  • depression
  • irritability
  • tearfulness
  • anxiety and nervousness
  • inability to concentrate
  • loss of interest in sex
  • avoiding social situations (e.g. a night out with friends)
  • withdrawn behaviour
  • increased smoking/alcohol/drug use
